He knelt beside me, his tangled hair half-covering his face and his eyes wide and round. The corners of his lips curved in a subtle smile. Horror and peace mingled in his features, more alive than before. His sleeve was ripped open, exposing his shoulder, and blood soaked the shirt’s front, though I couldn’t see a wound on him.  

“How’d you get away?”

“I didn’t. But, neither did they.”

You know how Gatorade is marketed to replenish your electrolytes and keep you functioning at your peek level of performance. Human blood is likewise the ‘thirst quencher’ for vampires.

Jokes aside, I wanted the vampires I’ve created in this world to be more human. Yes, they’re stronger, faster, etc…but they are vulnerable too. Taking on three armed men, even for a vampire, is extremely dangerous.
